Amp Central EVO Troubleshooting No Sound Clipping and IR Setup
Follow the signal to locate no sound, clipping or routing problems, then check IR compatibility and VoidX connection without changing the whole rig.
In this article
When an Amp Central EVO setup stops behaving as expected, locate the first point where the signal disappears or distorts. Changing the amplifier, IR, interface gain and monitoring at the same time makes that harder.
First check the physical load configuration with the amplifier switched off. For silent use, the correct amplifier output must feed FROM AMP OUT and TO SPEAKER must be empty. If a cabinet is connected, it becomes the load because the TO SPEAKER jack bypasses the internal load. If you are unsure of that configuration, resolve it before any sound test with the impedance and load matching guide.
The screen does not turn on
Check the front power switch and use the supplied power supply, or a substitute verified as fully compatible. The manual specifies 24 V DC, centre negative, with at least 300 mA current capacity. A plug fitting the socket does not establish voltage or polarity compatibility.
Do not repeatedly try unrelated pedal power supplies. If the specified supply and switch position do not restore power, contact support before continuing with a powered recording setup.
There is no guitar signal at the input meter
Check that the guitar volume is up and that the amplifier has been brought into operation according to its instructions. Confirm the correct amplifier output and FROM AMP OUT connection with power off before altering those cables.
For a full-amplifier setup, check that nothing is inserted into LINE IN. The manual states that this input bypasses FROM AMP OUT, so leaving another source connected there can select the wrong path for the intended workflow.
Calibrate INPUT LEVEL using the procedure in our Amp Central EVO recording tutorial. Do not immediately turn the amplifier master up to search for sound. A monitoring fault can coexist with substantial power reaching the load.
The input meter responds but nothing reaches the headphones or DAW
Start with a known working preset and temporarily bypass the noise gate. An excessive threshold can silence quiet notes. Check headphone level when listening locally, then the selected output, preset volume and receiving input when using an interface.
In the DAW, confirm that the track listens to the physical input actually connected. Check track arming or input monitoring as required by your software, channel mutes and the output assignment. A track receiving input while the master output is muted is a different fault from an interface receiving no signal.
If headphones connected to Amp Central EVO work but the interface receives nothing, concentrate on the output cable and receiving input. If both fail, return to the preset, gate and source path before changing the computer settings.
CLIP lights up on Amp Central EVO
Reduce INPUT LEVEL and repeat calibration with a dynamic clean sound and strong playing. The manual calls for a steady 0 dB indicator, occasional +6 dB activity and no CLIP indication. Recheck the channels and boosts you will use.
Turning down headphone volume cannot correct clipping in the input stage. The PAD is an input attenuation control, not the cabinet’s HALF/FULL switch. If a source cannot be accommodated through normal calibration, consult the manual and support rather than compensating with extreme amplifier settings.
Amp Central EVO is clean but the recording distorts
Look at the interface input meter and recorded waveform. Lower the receiving gain or adjust the appropriate source output level if that input is overloaded. LINE OUT has its own control; the MAIN output level is affected by the preset. Pulling down a software track fader does not repair an overloaded analogue input.
If distortion appears only after adding an external effect, remove that effect from the test path and restore it separately. The manual warns that some pedals may distort at the FX send level. Lower the preset volume as needed for compatibility and compensate at the downstream gain stage while checking its headroom.
The sound is unusually harsh or heavily filtered
Confirm which output you recorded. LINE OUT does not include the cabinet IR. For a normal cabinet sound from that recording, apply appropriate cabinet processing downstream.
With MAIN, check that IR processing is enabled if your firmware offers bypass. If the sound is overly filtered, check whether a cabinet plugin in the DAW is processing a signal that already contains an IR. Compare one known response without additional cabinet processing. Our cabinet IR explanation covers this distinction.
An IR file will not load or the app cannot connect
Check the file properties. The manual specifies mono WAV files at 24-bit and 48 kHz, uploaded through VoidX-Control. Renaming a file extension does not convert its channel count or sample format. Test a known compatible file before replacing your presets.
For connection problems, close VoidX on other devices and disconnect their Bluetooth link. Amp Central EVO can connect to only one controlling device at a time. Refresh the device list, allow a few seconds for discovery, and confirm Bluetooth is enabled if that is the connection you are using. For a wired connection, use a suitable data-capable USB cable.
Only one side of the stereo setup is correct
Check both cables and both interface input assignments first. In STEREO mode, the left and right IRs feed their respective outputs. In SUM mode, each output carries the combination of both IRs. A mono DAW track assigned to one input cannot capture the other side.
Test without external effects, restore them one at a time, and keep a note of the working routing. If the problem persists, send support the amplifier model, connection layout, firmware and app versions, preset used and the first meter or output where the expected signal is missing. That gives them a reproducible starting point instead of a list of settings changed at random.
